Subject – Reading & Phonics
The ability to read and write begins with the systematic teaching of phonics. It is through phonics that children can go on to develop a love of reading and writing. The ability to access texts in turn opens up a range of learning opportunities to them and enables children to develop their confidence and in all areas of the curriculum.
At Brompton Hall phonics is delivered through Read, Write Inc. On arrival in school pupils are assesses on their phonics ability and pupils needing support are started on either RWI or RWI fresh Start depending on their age. Pupils are then supported to work sequentially through the phases, developing phonic knowledge, blending, and segmenting skills.
“The head of school is highly ambitious and determined for all pupils to be the best that they can be.”
